Back in the day it was the norm to find your dream partner, get married and then have kids. In recent years there has been a real shift in this trend. More and more couples are now having kids before they take the plunge down the aisle. Records from the CSO show in the year 2016, that over 23,000 births occur outside marriage. 

The question is then “Do I invite other people’s children to the wedding?”This can be a difficult decision to make but at the end of the day always remember that it’s your wedding day and noone elses. Or maybe you want some ways to include your own children into your big day, weather its a niece, nephew or your own children, adding children into the wedding day can be a very sweet thing to do.

  1. Have them walk down the aisle – A great way to get the kids involved and there are so many ways that they can get in on your big day. They can walk down the aisle before you or guide you out after the ceremony. 
  2. Have them hold the rings or be a flower girl – everyone loves a cute ring bearer or flower girl. The children will feel really special to have such important roles in the wedding. 
  3. They can do a reading at the church/ reception – providing they are old enough and can read, this is a super way to give them a role on the day. A reading could be a psalm, a poem or a few kind words that will be sure to make the guests heart melt. 
  4. Have a special dance with your children after the first dance – After the first dance will give you the opportunity to get the kiddos up and moving by inviting them for a very special second dance. The song choice can be anything that’s close to your hearts. 
  5. If using your own vows add a paragraph on them – If you decide to write your own vows why not mention your pride and joys? I’m sure your children would love to hear their name when your declaring your love for their daddy.
